Description

Amber Art is a new amazing series of coins showcasing modern art styles. The Baroque coin starts the series and is presented as a 2 oz silver piece with ultrahigh relief coated in antique finish. The key element of the design that gives the series its name is the oval amber inset. Behind the amber, one can see a variety of engraved character images that often adorned ceilings and paintings in that period. With the worldwide mintage of 500 pieces, each coin comes housed in a specially designed presentation case.

The typical Niue Island obverse of the Queen’s effigy surrounded by the inscriptions is isolated into a mini-coin. It features semicircular cornices, decorative pillars, monstrous stairs and sculptures characteristic of the given period.

The reverse presents the richness of baroque adornments with a beautiful fresco dipped in real amber. It is the first time such a technology has been used in numismatics. Baroque is a period as well as the style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, literature, dance, and music. The style started around 1600 in Rome, Italy and spread to most of Europe.
