Description
In European folklore a werewolf was believed to a be a human who transformed into a wolf at night, devouring animals, humans and corpses before reverting back to human form by day. A werewolf could transform himself by using magic or be transformed against his will after being placed under a curse.
More recently, the portrayal of werewolves has taken a more compassionate turn with the growing popularity of the horror and fantasy genre. The modern werewolf is depicted as a sympathetic character, unable to control his change or behaviour, transforming into a wolf under the light of a full moon.
