Description

The second release in the exciting Norse Gods series is now available featuring Thor.

According to ancient Norse mythology, Thor was a hammer-wielding god of thunder, and is associated with lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, the protection of mankind, and also healing, and fertility. Thor was the son of Odin and Fyorgyn, the Earth goddess. His wife was Sif, a goddess who was also linked to fertility.

The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.9% pure silver.

The reverse of the coin depicts Thor wielding his hammer, wearing his belt and gripping the fang of the serpent Jormungand. Also included in the design is a goat’s head, lightning and the inscription THOR, as well as The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

To capture the depth and detail of the design, the coin is struck in high relief to a rimless format and features an antique finish.

Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date, and the monetary denomination, are shown on the coin’s obverse.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 2,000 of the 2016 Norse Gods – Thor 2oz Silver High Relief Coin.

The coin is housed in a prestigious square wooden display case with stunning engraved detail on its lid, and packaged in a themed shipper. The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
