Description
Haliotis tuberculata or the green ormer is a maritime snail species which is mainly found in the Mediterranean but also in the Eastern Atlantic. This sea dweller is often mistaken for a mussel because of its shape as well as its ability to create pearls just like a mussel does.
The muscular foot with which the animal clings onto the ground is considered a delicacy in many countries. For this reason the marine snail is an endangered species and regionally protected in various ways.
