To celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, The Perth Mint is proud to release this commemorative gold proof high relief coin.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary at 2:40am on 21 April 1926, the eldest daughter, and first child, of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. On 20 November 1947, the Princess married the Duke of Edinburgh, known then as Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, in Westminster Abbey. She ascended the throne five years later at the age of 25, upon the death of her father on 6 February 1952. She is the longest reigning monarch in British history, and the longest living British monarch.
Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality.
The coin’s reverse depicts a pattern inspired by The Queen’s coronation crown. The inscriptions H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH II and 90TH BIRTHDAY, the date ‘21-4-2016’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also included in the design.
Each coin’s high relief reverse and obverse are minted on concave surfaces to ensure the optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date and the monetary denomination on the coin’s obverse.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 300 of the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 90th Birthday 2oz Gold Proof High Relief Coin.
Each coin is housed in a prestigious wooden lid display case with a themed shipper and is also accompanied by a numbered Certificate.
