Collection will be available from 24 January 2014 and will have nine pieces in gold, silver and cupronickel

On 24 January 2014, the Brazilian Central Bank will release a series of official commemorative coins for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. In all, there will be nine special coins for collectors: one in gold, two in silver and six in cupronickel.

The gold coin will allude to the FIFA World Cup trophy and the moment when a goal is scored. One of the silver coins will have the World Cup official mascot on it – the three-banded armadillo Fuleco – while the other will pay homage to the tournament’s twelve host cities.

The cupronickel coins will be part of a series called ‘Football Moves’, portraying common plays: the goalkeeper’s defence, a header, a player chesting down the ball, the pass, the dribble and the goal. In addition, from March onwards, a little booklet with the six cupronickel coins will start being sold.

After being released, the coins will be able to be purchased on the Banco do Brasil website (www.bb.com.br) or at the Brazilian Central Bank’s regional offices in Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo.
