The kookaburra is fondly known for its distinctive call which sounds similar to human laughter, and can be heard echoing through the trees at dawn and dusk.

2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the original Australian Kookaburra coin design which was first released in 1990 and designed by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG.

Each coin is struck from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

Each coin’s reverse depicts an adult kookaburra sitting on a tree stump surrounded by eucalyptus leaves and a fern. The design includes the inscription THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA, The Perth Mint’s special ‘P25’ mintmark, and the year-dates 1990 – 2015.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, each coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2015 year-date, and the monetary denomination.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 8,000 in this packaging of the Australian Kookaburra 2015 1oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin, from a maximum mintage of 10,000.

Each coin is packaged in a classic Perth Mint display case within an illustrated shipper, featuring the original coin design, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
