Description

The 2014 Australian Abalone Shell coin features a beautiful fragment of abalone shell, showcasing the spectacular inner surface of this highly sought after Australian mollusc.

In addition to being adored for their stunning inner shells and pearls, the flesh of the abalone is considered to be a culinary delicacy in many countries, consumed raw or cooked in a variety of dishes.

This rare coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The reverse of this unique coin features a sculpted representation of an abalone shell, with a polished fragment of abalone shell centrepiece, against a rippled pattern representing the ocean floor.

Please note: abalone shell colours and patterns may vary.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2014 year-date.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Abalone Shell 2014 1oz Silver Proof Coin.

Each coin is housed in a classic presentation case within a beautifully designed illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
