Description
The final release in the breathtaking Birds of Australia series features the vibrant Splendid Fairy-wren.
Widely distributed in south-west and inland south-east Australia, the Splendid Fairy-wren inhabits dense shrubs and woodlands. Living in small groups, this jaunty bird hops and bounces among the undergrowth in search of insects.
The Birds of Australia – Splendid Fairy-wren 2013-dated 1/2oz coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
Captured in colour, the coin’s reverse portrays a bright blue male Splendid Fairy-wren in the foreground and a grey-brown female in the background, headed by the inscription SPLENDID FAIRY-WREN. As well as The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the design also includes representations of Australian vegetation.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the year-date, in addition to the monetary denomination, and the fineness and weight of the coin.
The coin is housed in a grey presentation case within a coloured shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 10,000 of these Birds of Australia – Splendid Fairy-wren 1/2oz Silver Proof Coins.
