A nautical Britannia for 2015
The eagerly anticipated annual release of the Britannia Proof Collection has arrived, with a design for 2015 that nods to Britannia’s maritime heritage. This comprehensive range in fine gold and fine silver includes individual coins, such as the grand Five-Ounce, and exceptional sets of three or six coins, all finished to pristine Proof standard. Britannia coins will be in great demand this year, as they will bear the fifth definitive portrait of The Queen – two British icons united.
About the coin
For 2015, artist and sculptor Antony Dufort has been selected to create the latest interpretation of Britannia, the female personification of Britain. Revisiting the icon’s two millennia of history, the artist has introduced nautical elements in his design, such as the masted ship on the horizon, recalling the Cartwheel Penny of 1797. The design, while taking inspiration from convention, has a contemporary feel, with each fine detail perfected in our unrivalled Proof finish.
Your impressive coin, struck in one full ounce of 999 fine silver, is presented in a stylish case with a booklet that reveals Britannia’s naval origins. The coin is also accompanied by a certificate that confirms it is one of just 3,000 to be released in this Limited Edition Presentation and that it was produced by The Royal Mint – the only mint with the trademark to produce genuine Britannia coins. These are the first Britannia coins to bear the new fifth definitive portrait of The Queen, making them an excellent memento of a vintage year for our coinage.
