The Largest Silver Coin in the Britannia Range
Marking a Historic Anniversary with a Minting First
Britannia is an enduring symbol on Britain’s coinage, second only to Her Majesty The Queen. First appearing on the coins of the Emperor Hadrian in a conquered Britain, her presence on the coinage was revived in the seventeenth century on the farthings and halfpennies of Charles II. She has appeared on the coins of every monarch since. Britannia is a symbol of the people of the nation and their modern day heritage. Now, we look back to the historic moment the icon took up a new role as the face of Royal Mint Bullion on gold and silver coins with a special Britannia collection for 2017.
This twenty-ounce coin is a UK minting first and the largest and most exclusive silver coin in this year’s Britannia Proof Collection. A one-off release only available for 2017, the coin marks two decades of the silver Britannia coin and features the anniversary trident mint mark with the number 20. Struck in twenty ounces of 999 fine silver and finished to Proof standard, the celebratory coin has a diameter of 100mm. This limited edition coin comes in a Royal Mint case, with a booklet exploring Britannia’s journey and the inspiration behind the new design, with just 500 presentations available.
