Heralding the Christening of Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

A silver £5 coin struck for the princess
A baby’s christening marks an official welcome to the world, and as Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge is baptised, we issue a £5 coin in her honour – the only official United Kingdom coin to be struck, and the first to bear her name, with a design officially approved by her parents. Only available in 925 sterling silver and 22 carat gold, struck to Proof standard in strictly limited numbers, this is a very special way to remember the arrival of the new princess.

About the Coin
When news of the safe arrival of a very special baby was announced by the Palace on 2 May, the nation was elated. Now, as the Royal Family unites to baptise Princess Charlotte, we celebrate with a stunning 925 sterling silver Proof coin. This official UK coin has been approved by the princess’s proud parents, and it is the first official coin to bear the name of the baby who is fourth in line to the throne.

The reverse has been designed by experienced coinage artist, John Bergdahl, who also created designs for the coins struck for Princess Charlotte’s birth and the christening of her older brother. This celebratory composition echoes the christening coin for Prince George, depicting cherubs heralding Charlotte’s arrival, her name on a cartouche, surrounded by details inspired by the Lily Font used in royal christenings since 1841. This intricate design has been finished to our finest Proof standard and is paired with the fifth coinage portrait of The Queen, Charlotte’s great-grandmother, on its obverse. Perfect to mark this special moment for the nation’s princess.
