Description

In the early 19th century, the discovery of gold led to the gradual clearing of much of regional Australia for farming. The sheer enormity of these new rural properties, and the need to transport livestock long distances required a man on horseback, and so the stockman became an integral part of farming and station life.

Each coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The coin’s reverse depicts an Australian stockman on his horse watching over a flock of sheep in a rural paddock in colour, framed within the shape of Australia. The inscriptions THE LAND DOWN UNDER and AUSTRALIAN STOCKMAN also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination.

The Perth Mint will issue no more than 5,000 of The Land Down Under – Australian Stockman 2014 1oz Silver Proof Coin.

Each coin is housed in a unique Australian map-shaped latex case within a stylised shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
