Description

In 2016 we celebrate the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, the monkey. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar monkey include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, and 2016. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.

Each coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The reverse of the coin depicts an adult monkey and a baby monkey, gilded in 24-carat gold, sitting in a peach tree. The baby is holding a peach, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 47,500 of the 2016 Year of the Monkey 1oz Silver Gilded Edition in this packaging from a maximum mintage of 50,000.

Each coin is housed in a classic black and red display case and illustrated shipper and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

The Year of the Monkey Gilded Edition can also be purchased in a capsule only with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Cases are still available for collectors of the complete twelve-coin set.
