Celebrating the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, the monkey, this exquisite offering from the Year of the Monkey Lunar Silver Coin Series II is struck in brilliant high relief.

Each coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The reverse of the coin depicts an adult monkey and a baby monkey sitting in a peach tree. The baby is holding a peach, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 7,500 of the 2016 Year of the Monkey 1oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin in individual packaging.

Each coin is housed in a classic black and red display case and illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
