Description

In 2016 we celebrate the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, the monkey.

The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar monkey include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, and 2016. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.

Each coin is meticulously struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver.

The reverse of each coin depicts an adult monkey and a baby monkey sitting in a peach tree. The baby is holding a peach, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The delicately frosted design on the silver proof coin appears on a mirror-like polished table.
The shiny design on the bullion coin appears on a frosted table.
The gilded edition highlights the monkeys in 24-carat gold.
The coloured edition depicts the monkeys in vivid colour.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2016 year-date, and the monetary denomination are shown on each coin’s obverse.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,500 of the 2016 Year of the Monkey 1oz Silver Typeset Collection from the following maximum mintages: 8,500 (proof), 300,000 (bullion), 50,000 (gilded) and 170,000 (coloured).

The Typeset Collection is housed in a classic black and red display case and illustrated shipper.
